Empowering training officers with knowledge,
skills, and discipline for a better future.
About Us
SPSTI Hyderabad is a successor of former Training Centre at Nara, set up in 2008. Prisons in Sindh are functioning since pre-partition time, after certain amendments, Rules were adopted after establishment of the Pakistan.
History
Prisons in Sindh have been functioning since the pre-partition era under the legal and administrative framework of the time. After the
establishment of Pakistan in 1947, the prison system was reorganized and the relevant rules were reviewed and adopted with necessary amendments to align with the new national governance structure.
To strengthen the professional training of prison staff, a Training Centre was established at Nara in 2008. This initiative marked an important step toward institutional capacity building within the correctional system.
Sindh Prisons Staff Training Institute (SPSTI) Hyderabad was later established as the successor to the former Training Centre at Nara, with an expanded mandate and improved infrastructure to meet modern correctional training requirements.
Since its establishment, SPSTI Hyderabad has played a vital role in enhancing the professional competence, operational skills, and leadership capabilities of prison officers through structured training programs, promotion courses, and specialized modules.
The institute continues to evolve in accordance with contemporary correctional standards, emphasizing discipline, transparency, human rights compliance, and modernization of prison administration.

IG PRISONS MESSAGE
Message from the Inspector General of Prisons
It is both an honor and a responsibility to lead the Sindh Prisons & Corrections Service at a time when reform is not only necessary but also a moral obligation. Guided by the vision of the Honorable Chief Minister and the leadership of the Minister for Prisons, we remain firmly committed to three core values: Safe Custody, Human Dignity, and Meaningful Rehabilitation.
We are transforming prisons from places of confinement into institutions focused on reform and reintegration. Digital governance and transparency are at the heart of this transformation. Key initiatives — such as biometric verification, the Prison Management Information System (PMIS), modern HR tools, and a centralized Command & Control Centre — are driving accountability, efficiency, and real-time decision-making.
Security is being enhanced through AI-enabled surveillance, facial recognition, smart scanners, and digital access control. At the same time, we are prioritizing education, vocational training, and rehabilitation programs in collaboration with leading academic institutions. These efforts aim to equip inmates with certified skills and support their productive reintegration into society.
With the continued support of the Sindh Government, we are building a system that embodies the values of justice, accountability, and hope for the people of Sindh.
Our Objectives
We are undertaking a comprehensive transformation drive to reimagine prisons — not as mere centers of confinement, but as gateways to reform and rehabilitation.
